The wide open spaces of the Bas-Saint-Laurent are great territory for observing wildlife. On Île Verte, it's not uncommon to see moose and deer frolicking in the fields. Birdlife is also abundant, especially in spring, as hundreds of thousands of seabirds come to nest on the islands. From the shores of the St. Lawrence, great blue herons are easy to spot, as are marine animals, particularly between Rivière-du-Loup and Cacouna, where belugas are known to raise their young.
