Contemporary Indigenous Art Biennal

The Indigenous Contemporary Art Biennial is back for its eighth edition! This exhibition brings together the works of over one hundred artists from various Indigenous nations around the world. The Musée de Rimouski is hosting a portion of this important collection.

The artists have developed practices rooted in printmaking, weaving, textile arts, embroidery, ornamentation, and sculpture. Working with wood, stone, jade, basalt, shells, plant fibers, thread, natural pigments, seeds, textiles, and laser-cut canvas, the artists appropriate materials that embody the history of the land, ecological relationships, and knowledge cultivated over generations.

The exhibition fosters a dialogue between distinct artistic traditions while honoring their cultural specificity, revealing how techniques passed down by parents and elders within communities continue to evolve through contemporary artistic practice.

The Musée de Rimouski will present art from the following artists: Kinoo Arcentales, Quiereme Artesanal, Qaqaq (Kaka) Ashoona, Jason Baerg, Marta IX BALAM, Marilyn Boror Bor, Miguel Sosme Campos, Marcelo Galicia, Norman Gonzales, Byron Lopez, Luisfer Morales, Adamie Alaku Qakatuk, Shiñi’ beu’ Ramírez, Axangayou Shaa, Leah Shenandoah, TRAMA Textiles, and Jeff Cán Xicay.
