Is your tribe suffering from a slight case of seasonal FOMO? That feeling of missing out on the best activities and not enjoying the great outdoors enough? We’ve got just what you need. Here is a list of winter experiences you absolutely must try in Bas-Saint-Laurent before the cold weather goes away. Dosage: one activity per week (or more, depending on the severity of your symptoms). Possible side effects: rosy cheeks and lasting memories.

Go for a walk in the woods

What could be more rejuvenating than immersing yourself in a forest when the light is soft and the snow muffles all sounds? Among the trees draped in white, your children will forget to ask for their tablets, too busy watching for squirrels.

Going hiking with your family is a bit like a team-building activity: you enjoy a different setting, without screens, to rediscover each other, strengthen bonds, and chat about your plans. It’s even better with surprise snacks for the return trip!

Go skating

Spending an afternoon at the local skating rink is fun. But skating on a trail or a loop is a nice change of pace. The Bas-Saint-Laurent region has a few ice trails in enchanting settings that will appeal even to little ones who fuss when putting on their skates. Skating without boards is like drawing in the margins: freedom!

Go snowshoeing

Don’t your little ones like to “go for walks”? Put snowshoes on their feet, and the dreaded hike will take on a magical dimension! With their large tubular soles, they’ll feel like yetis strolling among the conifers. And what about the sound of snow crunching underfoot… A delight for winter ASMR enthusiasts (hidden reference alert!).

Go cross-country skiing

You glide, you move forward, you fall (sometimes) and you get back up… almost always with a smile. This Zen activity has a way of calming the most nervous, warming up the most sensitive to the cold, and making everyone feel like Alex Harvey… at least until the first little hill!

Whether you prefer well-groomed classic trails or winding paths through the woods, the Bas-Saint-Laurent region has something for all levels. And the reward? Hot chocolate at the chalet, of course!
