Your basket, your tablecloth and the river

Laura Martin, she shares her crushes and discoveries with us for our greatest happiness!
You’ve got your sandwich on flatbread, your gingham tablecloth and your pretty wicker basket. All you need is the best place to enjoy your picnic, while keeping an eye on the majestic St. Lawrence. We provide the horizon. You provide the ham.

1. Parc de l’ancien quai,
Saint-André-de-Kamouraska
With its small lighthouse, a replica of the one that once stood on one of the Pèlerins islands, this park offers a charming backdrop for a bite to eat (and feed your Instagram page). Bonus: if it’s raining or windy, you can take refuge inside, where table and chairs await you. Sure beats sitting cross-legged eating cauliflower, doesn’t it?

2. Plage de l’Anse-aux-Coques,
Sainte-Luce-sur-Mer
Do you dream of eating your lobster guédille with your toes in the fine sand? The legendary beach of Sainte-Luce, with its 2.5 kilometers of coastline, offers you ample space to roll out your blanket without encroaching on your neighbor’s. Bonus: the colorful cabins in the background give the place a unique character. Just make sure you don’t get your shrimp stolen by an over-enthusiastic gull!

3. Parc de la Pointe,
Rivière-du-Loup
Chef’s salad or crudités? Tuna or ham panini? So many choices for the meal… Here, we add another dilemma: picnic table or big flat rock? No matter how comfortable your bottom is, you’ll find a spot to settle down and share the bread. Lively and busy, this park also features a new play module – perfect for helping kids digest.

4. Promenade de la mer, Rimouski
When I go on a picnic, I put in my little basket: dip, forks, tablecloth… and tongs for the tablecloth! If you don’t want your square of fabric to fly away, it’s best to tie it up! But don’t let the breeze stop you from refueling on this masterful promenade, where you feel like you’re floating on the river. If you eat it all, you might just get dessert: a spectacular sunset, laid on your plate.

5. Quai et Promenade Catherine Leblond, Trois-Pistoles
How about adding some sea urchin to your feast? It may not go very well with your macaroni salad, but at least enjoy the spectacle of fishermen unloading their cargo. With the ferry coming and going and the seabirds chirping happily by the dock, you won’t be bored. Whether you sit in the shade on an Adirondack chair or under the sun, every bite here tastes of vacation… and a little salt air.
