Family hikes for a colorful fall!

Writing

Olivier Gingras, terroir and wide landscapes lover, always looking for discoveries and experiences to share.

When the leaves begin to turn beautiful shades of red-orange, and wonder shines in the eyes of young and old alike, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine, putting seasonal chores on hold for a hike in the forest.

Here is a list of trails with unmissable panoramic views where you can go for a hike, take some photos, but above all, enjoy the fresh air and the smooth scent of fallen leaves.

Belvédère Raoul-Roy, sentier des Murailles

Parc du Bic, Saint-Fabien side

Saint-FabienOlivier Gingras

At the western part of Parc du Bic, on the Saint-Fabien side, is the entrance to Les Murailles trail leading to Pic Champlain.

Before even setting foot on the trail, there’s the Raoul-Roy belvedere: a rest area offering a superb view on the St. Lawrence River and the Bic islands.

You can stop there for a picnic or simply begin your walk toward the park.

It’s also the starting point for a short 0.4 km loop trail: ideal for families with young children or who don’t necessarily have a whole day free to climb a mountain.

Sentier des Coulombe

Saint-Fabien

On the other side of the Route de la mer, this trail offers six viewpoints, each more magnificent than the last, along a 6 km loop through the forest connecting the road to the mountain.

You can also get there from the Tronçon du camping, which starts at the municipal campground, directly across from the Saint-Fabien Tourist Office.

⚠️ Warning!
The trail is closed during the deer hunting season, from October 27 to November 16 this year.

Sentiers du Littoral

Rimouski

RimouskiOlivier Gingras

With 7.3 km of hiking trails and 4.7 km of bike paths (with no significant elevation changes), this little regional treasure connects the mouth of the Rimouski River to Rocher Blanc. It offers the perfect balance between salty sea air and forest aromas.

We can walk through small wooded areas, stroll along the shore and explore salt marshes thanks to beautiful wooden boardwalks on stilts, completed with interpretive panels to learn more about coastal habitats and their amazing wildlife.

It’s the perfect spot to watch snow geeses in family before they leave!

Canyon des Portes-de-l’Enfer

Saint-Narcisse-de-Rimouski

Within the Réserve faunique Duchénier (TERFA), there are several trails along the Rimouski River. Visitors can walk along a canyon nearly 5 km long and a network of accessible hiking trails, totaling more than 20 km.

A suspension bridge offers a unique view of the magnificent canyon and surrounding woods.

Sentier de la rivière des Trois-Pistoles

Notre-Dame-des-Neiges

Notre-Dame-des-NeigesPatric Nadeau

This section of the national trail let no one indifferent!

Not only because we can enjoy all kinds of different landscapes, but also because of its unique footbridge, which offers a bird’s-eye view of the Trois-Pistoles river and the colorful forests all around.

It’is a perfect spot for walking to the gentle sound of the river while rediscovering Notre-Dame-des-Neiges from a different perspective.

Mountains, rivers, footbridges, waterfalls, forests… To take a break and fill memories with colorful pictures, the Bas-Saint-Laurent region is full of golden destinations to enjoy during this unique season!
