About

The Chapelle au Pied‑du‑Lac bears witness to a very unique history — that of the small French‑speaking Protestant community that existed in the Bas‑Saint‑Laurent region from 1909 to 2010.

The years spent in New England had led many French Canadians to embrace Protestant principles. Some of them formed a small group of newcomers who settled in Pied‑du‑Lac‑Long and the surrounding areas. By 1920, the community counted 250 members, and in January 1923, the Evangelical Baptist Church of Pied‑du‑Lac‑Long and its school were inaugurated. The 1940s, 50s, and 60s marked the departure of many members who left in search of better opportunities elsewhere.

In 2016, following the property’s listing for sale, a nonprofit organization was established. It acquired the building with the intention of transforming it into a multifunctional cultural venue.

Today, it is an ideal place in the heart of nature for hosting a wide variety of activities. Whether indoors or outdoors, on its large flat grounds — where a marquee can be set up upon request — the possibilities are numerous:

• Weddings, baptisms, and civil funeral commemorations

• Shows and performances

• Recordings

• Exhibitions and gallery openings

• Workshops, training sessions, and conferences
