Pow-wow Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation
About
The Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation Pow Wow is an annual cultural celebration that honours the Nation’s traditions, identity, and living heritage. It takes place each year at the historic site of Pointe de Cacouna, Ktopeqonuk (Qsaweyu), an ancestral gathering place of the Wolastoqiyik.
Accompanied by the songs and rhythms of the drums, visitors can experience traditional dances, meet Indigenous artisans, discover their crafts and skills, and sample dishes inspired by Indigenous culinary traditions and the bounty of the land. The Pow Wow brings together Wolastoqiyik community members and dancers from many Nations in a spirit of sharing, connection, and celebration.
Beyond the festivities, the event provides an opportunity to keep traditions alive, reconnect with Wolastoqey identity, celebrate cultural heritage, and strengthen a sense of belonging to the Nation. It also helps raise awareness of Wolastoqey culture and share it with a wider audience, while encouraging intercultural exchange and bringing peoples closer together.
Through this gathering, the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation proudly celebrates the vitality of its culture and reaffirms its commitment to passing traditions on to future generations. The Pow Wow is a meaningful opportunity to come together, honour the Nation’s heritage, and share the richness of its living culture with visitors.
