When winter slowly settles in Rimouski

Writings

Julia Ruest, passionate about tourism, she showcases local businesses and events by creating unforgettable experiences for people from near and far.

Autumn is coming to an end and the first traces of snow are quietly appearing. While the children finish their Halloween treats, our streets are slowly preparing to welcome the cold season and the festivities that come with it. Before diving into the frenzy of the holiday season, we have a few weeks to enjoy, create, and be inspired.

This year, why not experience the anticipation of Christmas as a giant Advent calendar, set to the rhythm of the winter markets in Rimouski and the surrounding area?

Markets, discoveries,
and gift ideas galore

Even though the Local Artisan Christmas market allowed us to start our shopping early in November, December also promises its share of wonderful finds.

From December 4 to 7, Carrefour Rimouski will become a real meeting place thanks to two major events:

  • From Thursday to Sunday, the Marché des saveurs locales will bring together more than 66 producers and processors from the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. For its 20th edition, you will find products proudly “made in the BSL.”
  • The Salon des artisans du fleuve, on December 6 and 7, will bring together passionate creators and handmade products.

Two perfect opportunities to support local talent.

Our merchants
rekindle the holiday spirit

The magic will also be present throughout the region. No fewer than three markets will enliven Rimouski and its surroundings.

After the festive evening on November 26, bringing together some twenty local artisans and producers at Gaïa, Santa Claus will be invited on December 13. An outdoor choir and face painting for children will liven up your afternoon.

Continue in the spirit of the holidays and Christmas markets on December 2 at the UQAR Atrium. It’s the perfect place and time to take a break in the middle of exam season. For its part, the Macaronibar is offering three weekends filled with local creations on November 22-23, November 29-30, and December 6-7.

Don’t miss a stroll under the Christmas lights that make the whole of Saint-Germain sparkle, where shopkeepers have gone all out to create a magical atmosphere.

The villages are also getting into the festive spirit

Our village markets are also adding their own touch to the season. After those in Saint-Valérien, Saint-Narcisse, and Saint-Fabien earlier in November, other activities are coming up:

In mid-December, don’t miss the must-see event at the train station park. The Rimouski Public Market Holiday Market, December 12 and 13.

Finally, to conclude the season, the Saint-Gabriel-de-Rimouski market, on December 14, will offer kiosks, sweets, an elf hunt, and even a visit from Santa Claus.

Mark your calendars!

The 2025 holiday season promises to be rich, warm, and vibrant. It’s the perfect time to support our artisans, discover local products, and enjoy simple but precious moments.

Because, deep down, it’s these shared moments that make winter so welcoming in Rimouski.
