The Basques public market Christmas market: a bright tradition not to be missed!

Writing

Mélanie Paquet, fascinated by history, tells our own story with her inspiring pen.

When December settles in the Basques, a gentle excitement fills Trois-Pistoles. The streets light up, snowflakes playfully dance in the air, and the scent of sugar and spices drifts around. It’s the sign that one of the most anticipated events of the year has returned: the Basques Public Market Christmas Market, a true gem of the holiday season in the region.

On December 5 and 6, the chapel of Trois-Pistoles’ church and its surrounding park are transformed into a magical space where craftsmanship, gastronomy, and community spirit come together. Nearly thirty vendors will showcase their creations and local products, reflecting the talent and know-how that make the Basques so unique.

The festivities kick off on Thursday, December 5, from 4 PM to 8 PM, coinciding with the Festival of Lights.

It’s a special moment when the town sparkles with a thousand lights and the magic of Christmas warms everyone’s hearts.

Outside, visitors are transported into an atmosphere reminiscent of traditional German Christmas markets, with open-air stalls, cozy fires, braseros to keep warm, and even a DJ to make everyone smile and dance.

Guests can enjoy comforting foods, sip hot chocolate, and be swept up by festive and luminous entertainment.

Inside the chapel, nearly twenty booths will highlight carefully selected local products:

homemade jams, pastries, honey, artisan teas and tisanes, unique creations, and handcrafted gifts.

It’s the perfect place to find treasures to give—or to keep for yourself— while supporting local producers and artisans.

Each year, this market becomes more than just a shopping destination:

it’s a warm, human, and gathering experience, where visitors take the time to chat, explore, and celebrate the holiday spirit in its most authentic form.

A must-see in The Basques

Today, The Basques Public Market Christmas Market is recognized as one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. People come for the products, of course, but especially for its unique atmosphere: a blend of traditions, laughter, and lights, set in the intimate and charming space of Trois-Pistoles’ chapel.

The celebration continues the next day, Friday, December 6, from 10 AM to 4 PM, allowing everyone to fully enjoy this magical ambiance.

Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in the magic of Christmas, support local artisans, and experience an unforgettable moment in the heart of the Basques.
