In October, there are those who love being startled by monsters and getting goosebumps, and those who hate wearing costumes, carving pumpkins and hearing Thriller on repeat. If you belong to the second group, put in your earplugs and wait until November. If, on the other hand, you can hardly wait to trade a good scare for a handful of questionable-quality candy, rejoice! Halloween is just around the corner!

Whatever your tolerance for thrills, you’ll find an activity in Bas-Saint-Laurent to satisfy your annual craving for jump scares, fake blood and Smarties. (Insert evil laugh here.)

La Pocatière

20 Years of Mystery in La Pocatière

La Pocatière is to Halloween what the North Pole is to Christmas. The ultimate kingdom. The town has held this title for 20 years now. For this anniversary edition, La Poc isn’t messing around. From October 24 to 32 (yes, you read that right, the 32nd!), ghosts and witches will take over the town.

A giant leaf battle, a haunted house, a frightening trail on the mountain at Collège de Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, a horror movie night, face painting and a costume parade downtown await mortals of all ages. What more could you ask for? Fireworks? There’ll be those too.

Who Will Have the Last Laugh…

We’ve known for a long time that clowns aren’t just jesters who can make balloon animals. They can also be terrifying. They’ll be the stars of a burlesque event at the Pointe-au-Père Historic Site in Rimouski on Friday, October 30.

From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., three DJs will take turns behind the decks for this electronic music carnival. Running out of costume ideas to stand out under the strobe lights? A clown costume-making workshop will be offered on October 21. This will be a far cry from red noses and curly wigs…

Rivière-du-LoupLa forêt des mystères

Let’s Take a Walk in the Woods…

La Forêt des mystères is a well-established family classic in Rivière-du-Loup. On Saturday, October 24, strange and funny characters will roam the leafless trails of Parc des Chutes throughout the morning and afternoon, handing out gummy candies and unsettling looks.

For adults who haven’t had their full adrenaline fix, a puzzle-solving trail will stretch through downtown on Friday, October 30, after nightfall. The ghosts of Manoir Fraser will be waiting for you at the starting point. One piece of advice: don’t be late.

Grand Labyrinthe Halloween Automne La Pocatière

When Corn Meets Pumpkins

When it comes to dreaming up original activities for the festival of monsters, Grand Labyrinthe Kamouraska is in a league of its own.

On October 30, the LaPocalyspe trail will return among the rows of corn. In the afternoon, little ones will be able to chase hidden monsters.

In the evening, it’ll be the monsters’ turn to chase willing participants. Hard on the nerves, but packed with fun! On November 1, visitors can take part in the provincial pumpkin-throwing championship.

Everyone is invited to come and hurl their gourd as far as possible. Start practising now: the record to beat is 4.48 metres!

Saint-Germain-de-Kamouraska

Ready to Jump?

People usually go to Rebond to enjoy controlled jumps on trampolines. On Friday, October 30, there won’t be much control over anything. The indoor amusement centre will transform into a haunted playground.

In the afternoon, the former church in Saint-Germain-de-Kamouraska will welcome families with mysterious characters and circus performances. In the evening, it’ll be time for a costume party for adults, complete with a DJ and bar.

Rebond makes no secret of drawing inspiration from Cirque de la Pointe-Sèche, which had been hosting epic Halloween parties for the past three years.
