A break in the nature at La Caboche farm

Rédaction
Marc Larouche, he shares with us his tourist discoveries of his adopted region with passion!
Far from the noise of the city, La Caboche traditional farm in Rimouski invites you to a bucolic stopover where nature and respect for living things take on their full meaning.
Here, there are no cages, no compromises: the animals live free in the pasture, under the watchful eye of Sylvain Junior Henrie and Jessie Lepage, accompanied by their three daughters who grow up to the rhythm of the seasons, the births and the harvests.
Our chickens, pigs and Highland cattle live outside, scratching the ground, playing in the grass and being fed organic grains. We watch them blossom, stress-free. We want to keep it simple, real and deeply human.
Everything is done in a spirit of balance: herds are small, care is individualized and nature is respected. The animals are raised organically, without cages, and each animal is given ample space to express its natural behaviors.
The farm produces eggs from 750 free-range brown chicken, poultry, duck, pork and Highland beef, a hardy species with a long coat and spectacular horns. “We raise our animals, make sure they grow well, do the deliveries, the marketing, everything. There’s no middleman.”
Guided tours with the whole family
A visit to La Caboche is more than just a tour: it’s a guided, lively, human experience. Visitors are welcome by reservation, to guarantee both the safety of the animals and the quality of the experience.
It’s not an open house. We go with people. It’s a moment of sharing, an exchange on our daily lives, on the choice to do things differently.
And to accompany them? It’s not unusual for their four-year-old daughter Solene to join the tour. She knows the animals by their names, recognizes the signs of good health and enthusiastically explains what she sees. “She follows us everywhere. She knows where the eggs are, she recognizes the brown chickens from the white. It’s a beautiful thing to see.”
Visitors are touched by this authenticity and leave with a basket full of good produce and a breath of truth.
Farm store
The farm’s self-service boutique is open at all times. You’ll find La Caboche products, according to season and availability: eggs, chicken, pork, Highland beef and duck. “We produce with respect for the natural cycle. When we run out, we have to wait for the next season.
Some products are also available in public markets, small local grocery stores or by subscription. La Caboche also works with local restaurants, proof that the quality of its meat is recognized and appreciated.
A getaway that feels good
A visit to La Caboche Farm is all about slowing down. It’s about reconnecting with what matters. It’s watching children run through the tall grass while adults discover the secrets of a farm like no other. It’s about discovering that agriculture can rhyme with respect, patience and pride.
A moment out of time, in a peaceful corner of Rimouski, where we discover the beauty of the daily life of a young family who has chosen to raise their children differently, and to share their treasures.
