Marc Larouche, he shares with us his tourist discoveries of his adopted region with passion!
The story of the 2025 Memorial Cup in Rimouski is first and foremost the story of a dream. That of Alex Tanguay, a former Océanic player who became co-owner of the team at just 23 years of age. He built this dream with some thirty local partners, with the same passion in mind: to make junior field hockey and the entire region shine.
Many people thought it was impossible to bring the Memorial Cup back to Rimouski. But for me, it was clear from the start that we were going to bring it back and make it a memorable event.
confides Alex, whose family is closely linked to the club’s history. On the eve of this major national event, he talks about it with pride, but also with emotion.
Coupe Memorial
From May 22 to June 1, 2025, the eyes of the junior field hockey world will be on Rimouski. And not just for the games. The event promises more than just sport.
In collaboration with the Grandes Fêtes TELUS team and Tourisme Bas-Saint-Laurent, a veritable village of festivities will be set up around the Colisée Financière Sun Life.
Shows, Ferris wheel, fanfest, children’s games, Route of Champions… everything will be in place for an immersive, free experience.
We want it to belong to everyone. Tickets have been flying out fast, but even those who don’t have tickets will be able to come and experience the magic. There will be giant screens outside, family entertainment and a unique party atmosphere.
says Mr. Tanguay, who makes no secret of his enthusiasm at the prospect of Rimouski welcoming hundreds of visitors, media and hockey fans.
For the region, the spin-offs promise to be major. Tourisme Bas-Saint-Laurent has not hesitated to join forces with the organization, capitalizing on the exceptional showcase represented by the Memorial Cup.
We’re going to make Eastern Quebec shine like never before. For years to come!
assures the Oceanic’s co-owner. Because beyond the event, it’s an entire community that’s coming together. Rimouski is ready to receive, and to impress.
Oceanic de Rimouski
We’ve kept ticket prices the same as in 2009, to make the event accessible even 15 years later. And the shows and entertainment are free. It’s not every day that a small town can offer a championship of this magnitude to its citizens. We want every fan to feel involved, whether in the Colisée or on the street.
he explains.
Oceanic de Rimouski
And on ice? What are the Oceanic’s chances?
We’ve built this team for this moment in time. The youngsters are dedicated, and we sincerely believe we have a chance of winning the Cup.
The date is set. Hockey, pride, festive atmosphere and the warmth of the Lower Laurentians: this May, Rimouski won’t just be playing hockey. It’s going to be a national celebration, worthy of its love for the sport.
